LED Video Walls for Hospitals: A Calm, Readable Buying Guide for Karnataka Healthcare Facilities
A practical guide for Karnataka hospitals buying an LED video wall for reception, OPD waiting or the lobby — sizing, brightness, pitch and upkeep, without the jargon.

A hospital lobby in Jayanagar or an OPD waiting hall in Mysuru has different rules from a mall or a showroom. People are anxious, tired, or in pain. A screen here has to inform calmly, read clearly from a chair 4 metres away, and never flicker or glitch. This guide covers what actually matters when a Karnataka hospital buys an LED video wall.
The short version
- Indoor hospital walls need up to 600 nits, dimmed — never the harsh brightness used outdoors.
- Pick pixel pitch by seat distance: OPD waiting rows usually sit 3-6 m away, so P2.5-P3 is enough.
- Front-service cabinets suit reception walls with no back access; rear-service suits plant rooms and back corridors.
- Content matters more than hardware here: token numbers, doctor schedules, wayfinding, health advisories.
- Budget using /led-wall-price and confirm sizing with /led-configurator before ordering.
Where hospitals actually install these walls
Four spots come up again and again in Karnataka hospitals we've spoken with: the main lobby (token numbers, directions, donor or CSR messaging), the OPD waiting hall (doctor availability, queue status), the diagnostics corridor (reports-ready alerts), and the boardroom or training hall (used for tumour boards, CME sessions, administrative reviews). Each has a different brightness, size and viewing-distance need, so don't buy one spec for all four.
Lobby and reception
This is the first thing a visitor sees. It should feel calm, not like a retail billboard. A 2.5 m x 1.4 m wall at P2.5 pitch, viewed from 3-5 m, reads crisp token numbers and wayfinding icons without strain. Keep brightness at the lower end of the indoor range — around 300-400 nits is usually plenty for a lobby lit by daylight through glass; PxlOS cloud CMS lets you set a brightness schedule so the wall dims automatically once the sun moves.
OPD waiting halls
Rows of chairs mean some viewers sit close, some 6-8 m back. P3 or P4 pitch balances sharpness up close with cost over a larger area. Content here should rotate doctor names, room numbers, and short health tips — avoid moving video that competes for attention in a room where people are trying to hear announcements.
Pixel pitch and brightness: what not to over-spec
Hospitals sometimes buy the finest pitch available because it sounds like quality. It isn't necessary for a waiting hall viewed from 4 metres. Fine pitch (P1.8-P2) belongs in a boardroom or control desk where viewers sit under 2 m away and read small text or dashboards. For lobbies and corridors, P2.5-P4 is sharp enough and costs less per square foot. Check real module photos and specs at /p2-5-led-wall before deciding.
On brightness: a hospital lobby facing a glass facade on a busy road in Bengaluru can get surprisingly bright afternoon glare. If the wall sits right behind that glass facing the street, treat it as a semi-outdoor spot and use an outdoor-grade panel (up to 4,500 nits with auto-dimming) rather than a standard indoor one — a site survey settles this by checking the actual light levels at different times of day.
Serviceability: don't block a corridor for a repair
Hospital corridors are narrow and constantly in use. A rear-service cabinet needs 60-90 cm of access behind the wall, which most hospital walls don't have. Front-service cabinets let a technician swap a module from the front in minutes, without closing a corridor or disturbing patients. For almost every hospital installation we've reviewed in Karnataka, front-service is the practical choice — read the deeper comparison on serviceability if you want the engineering reasons.
Content: the part hospitals underestimate
- Keep text large — minimum 40-50 mm letter height for a screen viewed from 4 m.
- Use high contrast: white or pale text on a dark, calm background, not busy animated graphics.
- Rotate slides every 15-20 seconds; faster feels anxious, slower feels stale.
- Separate emergency announcements from routine content with a clear colour cue.
- Update doctor schedules and token numbers through PxlOS from a single login, without visiting the site.
The real test
Can a worried patient read it from their chair, first try, without squinting?
If not, the pitch or the brightness is wrong — not the content.
Installation and ongoing care
Hospitals can't afford downtime or disruption. We assemble and burn-in test every wall at our Jalahalli East facility before it reaches site, which cuts early failures. Installation is quoted and done as part of the per-sq-ft price on our website — no separate line item to negotiate later. Once live, PxlOS lets the facilities team monitor the wall remotely and push content updates without climbing a ladder.
- Site survey. We measure seat distances, ambient light and wall access to confirm pitch, brightness and service type.
- Design sign-off. Size, mounting height and content layout are confirmed before manufacturing.
- Factory build and burn-in. Panels are assembled and tested at Jalahalli East, not rushed straight to site.
- Install and commission. Mounting, cabling, controller setup and a content walkthrough for your team.
- Warranty and support. Two years onsite, pixel-to-pixel, with service calls logged through PxlOS — details at /led-wall-warranty.
A hospital screen's job is to reduce anxiety, not add to it.
Get the pitch, brightness and serviceability right for your specific lobby or waiting hall, and the wall becomes something patients barely notice — which, in a hospital, is exactly the point. Run your numbers through /led-configurator and check indicative costs at /led-wall-price before you finalise a spec.
See it running. Then decide.
Send your wall size on WhatsApp for a same-day price, or see indoor and outdoor walls running at our Jalahalli East experience centre in Bengaluru.
