LED Screen in Bangalore: Which One Do You Actually Need?

"LED screen" is what most people in Bengaluru type when they want a bright display for a shop, office, temple, showroom or roadside. The trade sells at least five different products under that phrase, at prices from ₹5,000 to ₹30 lakh, and the wrong one is an expensive mistake: a TV that vanishes in afternoon glare, a hoarding-grade panel that looks like a mosaic from two metres, a scrolling board where a customer wanted video. This page is the conversation we have with every buyer before a quotation: which format, which pitch, how bright, how sealed, and what it costs installed.

The five things sold as an LED screen in Bangalore

Only the first four are direct-view LED, where every pixel is a cluster of LEDs and brightness comes from the pixel itself. An LED TV is an LCD with an LED backlight, which is why it tops out at a few hundred nits and why the product is named the way it is. That single distinction settles most "LED screen" questions in this city.

Which LED screen: a five-question chooser

1. How far away is the nearest viewer? Under 2 metres, in a mall corridor or across a reception desk, you need fine pitch (P1.5 to P2.5). From a pavement, 3 to 8 metres, P2.5 to P4. From a road at 20 metres or more, P6 to P10 is plenty and much cheaper.
2. Does daylight fall on it? Behind a glass shopfront or outdoors, an LED TV and a standard indoor panel both fail. You need 2,500 nits behind glass and 5,500 nits or more in direct sun.
3. Bigger than 85 inches, or an odd shape? A TV stops at about 100 inches and is always a rectangle with a bezel. A video wall goes to any width, can be portrait, pillar-wrapped or curved, and reads as one surface.
4. Text only, or video? A rate list, a pharmacy name or a temple announcement is a scrolling board job at ₹5,000 to ₹25,000. Anything with photographs or motion needs full-colour LED.
5. Will it move? Exhibitions, wedding halls with changing layouts and seasonal kiosks suit a standee you can wheel out and plug in. Anything permanent should be a fixed wall or board.

Two of our published case studies show the chooser at work. Amukti, an ethnic-wear store inside a Bengaluru mall, had 1 to 3 metres of corridor viewing, no floor space to give up and a lightbox that needed a fresh print for every campaign; the answer was a fine-pitch portrait LED display built into the entrance pillar, with cabling run inside the pillar to a processor in the back office. Acai Theory in Indiranagar had the opposite problem: an open shopfront in direct afternoon sun, a printed menu that disappeared in the glare and a consumer TV that could not be read from the pavement. That became an outdoor IP65 P2.5 screen with auto-dimming so it is legible at 3 pm and comfortable at 10 pm.

Viewing distance decides the pixel pitch

Pixel pitch is the gap between LED centres in millimetres. The rule we use on every survey: the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pitch number. P2.5 looks smooth from 2.5 metres, P4 from 4 metres, P10 from 10. Buying finer than the nearest viewer needs is money spent on pixels nobody can see; buying coarser is a mosaic. The corporate cafeteria wall we built for a Bengaluru office is a good illustration of the resolution check: the pitch was chosen from the nearest seating row so spreadsheet text and faces on video calls stay legible to the back of the room, while the wall itself was sized to the recess so it reads as one surface with no bezels. Brightness in nits, and why Bengaluru glare is the real test

Brightness is where LED screens bought online go wrong most often. The figures below are what we specify, and what we tune the screen down to after installation, because a screen run at 100% indoors halves its own life and blinds the room.

• Indoor, controlled light (boardroom, auditorium, temple hall): 500 to 800 nit panels, run at 30 to 50%.
• Indoor, bright lobby or glass-fronted showroom: 1,000 to 1,200 nits.
• Behind a window facing the street: 2,500 to 3,500 nits. A standard 800-nit indoor panel washes out behind glass by mid-morning.
• Outdoor, shaded or north-facing: 3,500 to 5,000 nits.
• Outdoor, west-facing, direct afternoon sun: 5,500 to 7,000 nits, which is what our outdoor P4 to P6 modules deliver.

Every outdoor screen we install runs on an ambient-light schedule through PixelOS, dropping to a few hundred nits after dark. An outdoor screen left at full output at night is a glare complaint from the building opposite and, on some Bengaluru roads, a notice from the authorities. IP rating and cabinet type

Three questions settle the hardware once pitch and brightness are fixed.

Sealing

Indoor modules carry no weather rating and must stay dry. Anything that sees rain, spray or a monsoon-soaked wall needs IP65 front and rear, which is the standard on every PixelSpot outdoor screen. A screen under a canopy or in a semi-open banquet hall is a judgement call the site survey makes: usually IP65 on the module face and a sheltered rear. For coastal Karnataka installs in Mangaluru, Udupi and Karwar, salt air means IP65 both sides plus stainless fixings rather than galvanised, which we specify from the Karnataka page onwards.

Cabinet

Our standard indoor build uses 320×160 mm modules on die-cast aluminium cabinets, which hold flatness across a 12 ft width and keep the seams invisible. Sheet-steel cabinets are cheaper and heavier; they are fine for a roadside hoarding on a structure but show seams on a fine-pitch indoor wall. Ask any vendor which one is in the quote.

Front or rear service

If the screen sits flush against a wall, inside a pillar or in a shopfront opening, there is no way to reach the back. Front-service modules, held by magnets and lifted out with a tool in minutes, are mandatory in those positions. All three case studies above are front-service for exactly that reason. Rear-service is acceptable only where a technician can stand behind the screen.

What an LED screen costs in Bangalore, installed

Included in every wall price: panels and cabinets, receiving cards, controller, power supplies, mounting frame, cabling, installation by our own crew, 5% spare modules from the same batch, PixelOS content control and the 2-year pixel-to-pixel onsite warranty. Not included: civil work on a weak wall, a dedicated power line if the site lacks one, and the steel structure for a roadside hoarding, which is quoted after the survey. Per-square-foot price falls as the screen gets larger, and outdoor sealing adds 20 to 40% over the equivalent indoor pitch.

After the warranty, a module swap costs ₹1,800 to ₹4,500 fitted and a power supply ₹2,500 to ₹4,000; an AMC runs from about ₹150 per sq ft per year. The repair and AMC page lists every job and price, including for screens other vendors sold.

Manufacturer, dealer or supplier: what the words mean in this market

Search for an LED screen dealer, supplier or company in Bangalore and the listings look alike. They are not. A dealer imports finished cabinets, has no factory and usually subcontracts the installation; warranty means shipping a module back to the importer. A manufacturer assembles and burn-in tests the cabinets locally, keeps matched spare modules in the city and sends its own technicians. Installation and service across Bengaluru and Karnataka

1. Survey and mockup, free: a technician measures the wall, checks the mounting surface, power and the line of sight, and you get a 3D render and a fixed quote.
2. Fabrication: the frame is built to your recess and the cabinets are assembled and burn-in tested at the factory. Delivery is 10 to 15 working days from advance for stocked pitches.
3. Installation: a 10×6 ft indoor screen is mounted, calibrated and handed over in one to two days. Retail and mall screens go in before opening hours; the Amukti display was commissioned with content already loaded before the mall opened.
4. Handover: PixelOS training so the owner changes menus, offers and schedules from a phone, plus HDMI input where a room PC drives the screen.
5. Service: 24-hour response anywhere in Bengaluru, with the likely spares in the van.
