Most outdoor LED video walls in India do not fail because of the LEDs. They fail in July. Water tracks in through an unsealed cable gland, condensation forms behind the mask, a power supply corrodes, and by August the client is looking at a screen with three dead cabinets and a supplier who has stopped answering calls. Meanwhile the electricity bill has quietly become the second-largest line item after the purchase itself. If you are evaluating an LED wall for a showroom facade, a mall atrium, a hotel porch or a commercial building in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad or Delhi NCR, these are the four things that actually decide your five-year outcome: the weather, the power, the paperwork, and the structure.
DOOH in India is growing — but the rules got stricter
Digital out-of-home is the fastest-growing outdoor format in the country, driven by programmatic buying, day-part pricing and the simple fact that one screen can carry ten advertisers instead of one printed flex. But two regulatory realities now shape every metro installation.
Bengaluru: on-premise branding is a different animal from ad hoardings
Since the BBMP Outdoor Signage and Public Messaging Bye-laws came into force, third-party advertisement hoardings are heavily restricted across the city, while name boards and on-premise signage on your own building are treated differently and are subject to size and placement conditions. Practically, this means most Bengaluru LED walls being installed today are self-promotional: automobile showrooms on Outer Ring Road, jewellery and electronics retail on Commercial Street and Jayanagar, tech park lobbies in Whitefield and Bellandur, hospital and hotel entrances. Before you finalise dimensions, get your signage area cleared with the local ward office and your building management. Design the cabinet layout after that, not before — resizing a fabricated steel structure is far more painful than resizing a CAD drawing.
After the Ghatkopar collapse, structure is the first question
The 2024 Mumbai hoarding collapse changed procurement across the country. Civic bodies and mall owners now ask for structural drawings, wind-load calculations and fabrication details up front. For a rooftop or high-facade screen, insist that your fabricator designs for local basic wind speed as per IS 875 (Part 3) — that is roughly 33 m/s for Bengaluru and 44 m/s for coastal Mumbai and Chennai zones. Ask for the load in kg per square metre too: outdoor cabinets typically run 30–40 kg/m² before structure. A 5 m x 3 m screen is therefore a 500–600 kg live load hanging off your parapet, not a poster.
Monsoon-proofing: what to specify, not just hope for
IP65 printed on a brochure means nothing if the installation defeats it. Here is the spec sheet you should be comparing.

One more practical habit: schedule your pre-monsoon service visit in May — reseal glands, check gasket compression, clean drains, test SPDs, log module currents. It costs a fraction of a post-monsoon cabinet replacement.
Power: the running cost nobody quotes you
Outdoor screens run at 5,000–7,500 nits to stay readable in Indian daylight, which means real current draw. Peak wattage is what your MCB and cabling must be sized for; average wattage is what your bill reflects, because typical mixed video content draws only 30–40% of peak.

Multiply units by your LT/HT commercial tariff slab to get your monthly figure — it varies by state, so use your actual BESCOM, MSEDCL or TSSPDCL bill rather than a generic number.
Three easy ways to cut the bill
- Auto-brightness with a light sensor. Running 7,000 nits at 10 pm is wasteful and creates glare complaints from neighbours. Dimming to 15–25% after sunset can cut average consumption by a third.
- Content discipline. Full-white backgrounds draw maximum current. Dark backgrounds with bright type look better on LED and consume noticeably less.
- Scheduled off hours. A CMS schedule that sleeps the wall from 1 am to 7 am removes 25% of runtime with zero commercial loss for most retail.
Also size the supply properly: anything above roughly 6 kW peak should be on a three-phase feed with balanced cabinet distribution, an AVR or servo stabiliser if your area sees voltage dips, and an RCCB rated for the leakage a large PSU bank naturally produces.
GST and pricing transparency: how to read an LED wall quote
A lot of confusion around LED video wall price in India comes from quotes that hide scope. LED display panels fall under HSN 8528 and attract GST at the applicable rate (currently 18% for display goods — confirm the prevailing rate at the time of invoicing), while installation and structure work may be billed separately as a service SAC. If you are a GST-registered business, that tax is input credit, so insist on a proper tax invoice with HSN, serial numbers and warranty terms.
Use this checklist to compare two quotes fairly:
- Module brand and bin grade, plus lamp and driver IC make
- Cabinet type — die-cast versus sheet metal, IP rating front and rear, weight per m²
- Exact pixel pitch and resulting resolution (a 3.2 m x 1.8 m P6.67 wall = 480 x 270 px; know what you are buying)
- Receiving cards, sending box or controller, and video processor
- CMS licence — perpetual or annual, cloud scheduling, number of users

- Installation, crane or scaffolding, and commissioning
